Our Office, in Collaboration with the Yilan District Prosecutor's Office, Uncovers the Largest Ketamine Smuggling Case in History

1.This case was led by Prosecutor Shen Yu-zhi of the Hsinchu District Prosecutor's Office, directing the Zhubei Branch of the Hsinchu County Police Bureau and the Taichung Coast Guard Investigation Team, in conjunction with Prosecutor Zhang Feng-qing of the Yilan District Prosecutor's Office.
2.To implement the Executive Yuan's "Safe Housing Anti-Drug Project" policy and strengthen inter-agency cooperation and source tracing against drug trafficking, Prosecutor Shen Yu-zhi coordinated efforts with the Zhubei Branch of the Hsinchu County Police Bureau and the Taichung Coast Guard Investigation Team, jointly uncovering Taiwan's largest maritime smuggling case of finished ketamine products. Six key members of the drug trafficking organization, including Chen ○ Xiong, were indicted. A total of 1,514 packages of ketamine (weighing 1,625.8 kilograms) categorized as a Class III drug and 20 packages of methamphetamine (weighing 22.5 kilograms) categorized as a Class II drug were seized, totaling over 1.6 metric tons of second and third-class drugs. This operation significantly disrupted the cross-border drug transportation network, marking the largest maritime drug smuggling case in Taiwan's history. The investigation has concluded, and a public prosecution was filed on June 9, 2025, for court proceedings.
3.On June 10, 2025, Executive Yuan Premier CHO Jung-tai personally attended the press conference for the "12th Wave of the Safe Housing Anti-Drug Project" held at the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office. The Chief Prosecutor of our office, Chen Song-ji, along with Chief Prosecutor Huang Zhen-lun and Prosecutor Shen Yu-zhi, represented the office at the event, providing details on the investigation process and the outcomes of the project. Premier Su expressed high recognition and encouragement for the tireless cooperation of prosecutors, police, and coast guard in tracing and combating drug-related crimes. He emphasized that this case has significant implications for strengthening public security, preventing drug harm, and promoting the anti-drug policy in Taiwan. During the event, Premier Su also took a commemorative photo with our office staff and representatives from the police and coast guard, highlighting the Executive Yuan's strong emphasis on and support for grassroots teams fighting drug crimes.
