1.Prosecutor Lin Feng-shi from our office has concluded the investigation into the natural gas leak incident that occurred on June 24, 2023, at the simple pressure regulating station on Zhongzheng Road, Zhubei City, operated by Hsinchu Gas Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Hsinchu Gas Company). This incident resulted in damage to 21 residential homes and injuries to several residents, both minor and serious. It has been determined that Hsinchu Gas Company and defendants Zhang ○ Xiong, Lin ○ Hong, and Wu ○ Ren are all guilty of negligently causing a natural gas leak that endangered public safety. A public prosecution has been filed against them in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Law at the Hsinchu District Court.
2.Investigation Results: Public prosecution has been filed against defendants Zhang ○ Xiong, Lin ○ Hong, Wu ○ Ren, and Hsinchu Gas Company in accordance with the law.
3.Our office urges all operators of public utilities related to public safety and residents' livelihoods to strictly adhere to laws and regulations, and to implement regular inspections and equipment updates as part of their risk management measures. This is to prevent the dangers posed by human errors that could lead to disasters. If any operators are found to be at fault, our office will handle the matter rigorously and from a standpoint of caring for the public, clarifying accountability to ensure social safety and protect the rights of citizens from fear and insecurity.
